Groundbreaking on Black Street Development

On November 26th, 2019, we had our official groundbreaking ceremony for our latest project – the Black Street Development. Joined by our partners, investors, friends, and even the Mayor of Pittsburgh, Bill Peduto, we celebrated the commencement of construction on our four unit mixed-income development. To say that we’re excited is an understatement!

Background on the Backstreet Development

Some background on the Black Street Development – it will consist of four units within three structures – one affordable house, one market rate house, and a duplex. Both the market rate home and the affordable home are available for presale, and the duplex will serve as our show home (so everyone can come visit a Module home in person!) The homes will be built using modular construction processes, which means that each story will be built as a complete volumetric box (in the factory) and then shipped to the construction site. The homes feature a contemporary design which strikes the balance between being contextually appropriate for the neighborhood while providing an aesthetic that’s appealing to home buyers.

Each home will be Zero Energy Ready Home certified. This means that the homes will be built to the U.S. Department of Energy’s standard of sustainability. As a result, the owners will have higher energy efficiency, lower utility bills, and a house built to uniquely high quality and durability standards. You can dig into the details of that here

Development Partners

For this project, we’re working with our financing partners Dollar Bank and the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh, as well as our Module Innovation partners, Lowes, Cobalt Creed, IKEA, Mitsubishi, and Dupont. Our friends over at BlockHouse Residential are leading construction, so make sure you give them a wave when you drive by the site!

The land is currently being prepped and excavated and the houses are planned to go on the factory line in January. We’re so excited about this project, and we can’t wait for everyone to see it when it’s complete. Stay tuned for more construction updates!
