This week, the Post Gazette ran an article titled: “Pittsburgh's youth exodus reverses: Millennials are being drawn to the city.” The piece states that Pittsburgh’s growth in the millennial population ranks third in the country.
So, if all these young people are moving to Pittsburgh, where are they living and will they stay here? Those are some of the questions we’ve been asking this summer in our work with Idea Foundry. Millennials get married later, have families later, and are more mobile than their parents were. What does this mean for housing? You’ll find out as we continue prototyping.
In other news, we are grateful to be part of the Alloy 26 Fellowship! Alloy 26 is Pittsburgh’s largest co-working space. It’s part of the new Nova Place development in the old Allegheny Center Mall on the North Side. As fellows, we receive free office space for 6 months along with access to Nova Place resources, including the delicious La Prima coffee.
While most of our work is happening behind closed doors, we will be participating at Pittsburgh’s Thrival Festival, which takes place September 20th– 24th. Thrival is “an innovation and music festival to shine a light on the new ideas and entrepreneurs that are fueling Pittsburgh’s 21st century economic resurgence.” We are planning some fun, engaging user-testing for the event. Please check our social media feed for details as the date for Thrival approaches.
